The Westview Lady Charger softball team squandered what few scoring chances it had in a close 2-0 loss to the host Obion County Central Lady Rebels on Monday afternoon. Westview managed just four hits in the loss. Half those hits came in the second inning. With two outs in the books, Shaylon Robb and Jenna Hazelwood knocked consecutive singles. Both were stranded in scoring position when the third out was notched on a strikeout. Obion County took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third with a leadoff double followed by a WHS throwing error. Lady Charger Sam Giesler led off with a single in the fourth, but never even advanced to second base. In the sixth, Kelly Gaston drew a walk but was eventually thrown out at home on a grounder for the third out. Obion County doubled its lead to 2-0 with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, WHS threatened again. Carmesha Owens drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on Ashley Bynum's single. A passed ball allowed both runners to advance into scoring position with nobody out. However, three consecutive strikeouts brought an end to the Westview threat and gave Obion County a strong 2-0 victory against its District 13AA foe. |
