The Westview Lady Chargers took sole possession of first place in District 13-AA by stopping the Gibson County Lady Pioneers, 7-2, on Tuesday. On Monday, the Westview softball team avenged its only district loss by downing the visiting Obion County Central Lady Rebels, 3-0. The win over Gibson County should get a "G" rating as both Kelly Gaston and Sam Giesler provided the offensive punch needed. Both players went 2-for-4 with a bat in their hands. Gaston scored two runs, while Giesler scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. The tandem got to work in the top of the first. Gaston singled to open the game and scored on Giesler's RBI double. A Carmesha Owens single brought in Giesler. Shaylon Robb roped a double to plate Owens with what would turn out to be the winning run. Jenna Hazelwood singled to plate Robb for a 4-0 lead. Gibson County cut the lead in half with a two-run homer, but had little luck after that against starter Shanna Chappell who improved her overall won-loss record to 9-5-1. She struck out eight, walked two and gave up just four hits. On Monday, Westview took advantage of Ashley Bynum's hot bat and the pitching of Robb to blank OC, 3-0. Bynum was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Robb struck out 10 Lady Rebels, while allowing one walk and four hits. |
