It was another easy, breezy afternoon for the Greenfield High School Lady Yellowjackets tennis team. The Lady Jackets blanked the host Peabody Lady Tide, 7-0, Wednesday in Trenton. On one of the rare perfect afternoons for tennis this spring, Greenfield had its toughest struggle at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. At No. 4, Lady Jacket Melissa McCartney stopped Leslie Stovall, 8-5. At No. 5 singles, Greenfield's Natalie Medling picked up a point by topping Peabody's Miranda Diebel, 8-4. At No. 1 singles, Katie McCall cruised to another 8-0 win, this time downing Kelli Joyner. Mallory Robinson, at No. 2 singles, and Summer Hoke, playing at No. 3 singles, had little trouble with their Lady Tide opponents. Robinson took an 8-2 win over Paige Ritter, while Hoke handled Peabody's Hollie Butler, 8-1. In doubles action, McCall and Robinson, Greenfield's No. 1 tandem, downed Joyner and Stovall, 8-2. Hoke and McCartney paired up at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 win over Ritter and Halle Norman. In other singles matches that didn't count toward the team totals, Hannah Rawls from the Orange and Black stopped the Tide's Megan Cathey, 8-3, and Lady Jacket Haley Perkins downed Amanda Holt, 8-3. Peabody did take a win in singles action that did not count against the team totals. Lea Prestininzi defeated Greenfield's Taren Hatcher, 8-5. |
