The next step — Greenfield High School baseball standout Colin Medling has signed to continue his athletic career as a member of the Lions baseball team at Freed-Hardeman University. Wednesday had twice the significance for Medling, who inked on the day his grandfather Harley Medling — an FHU supporter — would have turned 92. "He's probably one of the best competitors I've ever had the good fortune to coach," GHS head coach Mike Riggs said. FHU head coach Patrick McCarthy sees a big future for Medling at the next level, "He's a strong kid with a good work ethic. I think he'll fit right in and down the road he'll be a real big benefit for us," On hand for the signing were (front, from left) Beth Medling, his mother; Colin Medling; his father Craig Medling; (back, from left) coach Jason Sullivan, Greenfield head coach Mike Riggs and Freed-Hardeman head coach Patrick McCarthy. |
