SHOWING THEIR SKILLS — Twelve students and four advisors from the Obion County Career Technology Center and Obion County Central High School recently traveled to the Skills USA state conference and competition in Chattanooga. Among the students who placed this year were (top photo, from left) Luke Laster, second place in Skills Suitcase Display; Rob Hutson, Jessica Twining and Blake Burress, third place in Crime Scene Investigation; and Jeremy Brooks, second place in Skills Suitcase Display. Laster’s and Brooks’ advisor is teacher Jeremy Roney, and Burress’, Hudson’s and Miss Twining’s advisor is teacher Heath Cunningham. Other student advisors include teachers Patsy Nicks and D’Anna Vancleave. All students received a one-year scholarship for any Tennessee Technology Center for qualifying for state competition. Skills USA is a national organization for trade and industry students in public high school, career technology centers and junior community colleges. It is a non-profit education association that includes 265,000 members organized into 13,000 local chapters in Canada and 54 state and territorial associations in the U.S. Roney is the chapter advisor for Obion County schools.
