RHYME TIME — Union City Elementary School pre-kindergartners Hannah Baggett (standing) and Noah Hatchett were among the many youngsters who recently participated in the school’s first-ever Rhyme Time family night. More than 80 preschoolers, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, teachers, educational assistants and administrators gathered to enjoy games, snacks and activities to promote the memorization of various nursery rhymes. According to Dr. Jean Feldman, an expert in the field of early childhood education, research proves that preschool children who can memorize eight or more nursery rhymes are better readers by the third grade. At UCES, the preschool classes are illustrating a nursery rhyme journal that goes home each week to assist the family in memorization of the nursery rhyme of the week.
