At the college level

Several students from Union City were recently recognized at Dyersburg State Community College’s annual Awards Convocation.
They include:
• Sharon A. Long of Union City, one of five students named as Distinguished Graduates. She and the other four honorees are expected to complete their college careers at DSCC with perfect 4.0 grade point averages.
The other honorees include Michael S. Gilbreath of Dyersburg, Tiffany L. McConnell of Atoka, Terry L. Napier of Kennett, Mo., and Joshua B. Proctor of Millington.
• Paula K. Phillips of Union City, recognized for achievement by Administrative Office Support.
• Robin J. Long of Union City and Kimberly A. Hernandez of Troy, recognized for achievement by the English Department.
They were among 212 students, faculty members and community leaders recognized at Dyersburg State’s annual Awards Convocation.

Jared G. Barnes of Union City recently received the Outstanding Biology Student Award and Joseph C. Caldwell of Rives recently received the Outstanding Management, Marketing and Political Science Student Award during the 44th annual Honors Day at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Caldwell was also recognized as a University Scholar.

Ronica Bobo, daughter of the late Ronald Bobo and Carl and Darlene Minor of Union City, will graduate Saturday at 11 a.m. from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a bachelor’s degree in social work.
The commencement exercises will be held in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on campus.
Ms. Bobo plans to begin studies May 17 at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., to pursue a master’s degree in social work.

Two students from Obion County were recently awarded degrees during spring graduation at Bethel College in McKenzie.
The graduates include:
• Amanda Alexander of Troy, who received a bachelor of science degree in nursing; and
• Samantha Spillers of Union Ctiy, who was awarded a master of arts degree in education.
