| Martin native held on rape charges |

A Martin native has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor. Joseph “Tojo” Harris Jr., 32, of Louisville, Ky. was arrested over the weekend by authorities after he was allegedly connected with performing sex acts on a child.
According to a press release issued by the Martin Police Department, charges were sought against him in reference to a complaint filed on May 3 at the department.
Apparently, the complaint stemmed from an incident that took place at Harris’s residence on Fulton Street in Martin sometime in 2006.
An investigation revealed Harris allegedly had inappropriate contact with the child in a separate incident while he lived in Union City in 2005.
MPD Invs. Robby Hatler and Capt. Randal Walker accompanied Louisville, Ky. investigators to Harris’s location Thursday. He was arrested that night and arraigned by a Kentucky court on Friday.
Harris has agreed to waive extradition, according to the release. He will be transported and housed at the Weakley County Detention Center.
He faces a Class B felony charge of aggravated sexual battery.
