James Dylan Bondurant of Union City was among 119 students recently awarded the Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.
Dr. Bondurant is the son of Jim and Mary Nita Bondurant of Union City and is the husband of Courtney Bondurant.
He is a 2003 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin and a graduate of Union City High School.
Dr. Bondurant recently began practicing optometry with Drs. Charles Denaburg and Rob Jordan in Union City.
Southern College of Optometry was established in Memphis in 1932. It is an independent, not-for-profit institution of higher education with a mission to educate men and women in the art and science of optometry.

Kristy Petty Seccia of Kenton recently graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University with an Ed.D. in leadership and professional practice.
Ms. Seccia’s dissertation, “The Effects of a Mentoring Intervention Program on Student Retention in a Rural University,” explored problems universities encounter with student attrition and proposed options intended to decrease departure. Her area of focus is leadership and professional practice and she plans to pursue educational administration.
A teacher for Sumner County School System, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Petty and Rose Akers.

Dyersburg State Community College students Jessica Jones of Obion and Laura Hayes of Dyersburg have each been chosen to receive Transfer Academic Service Scholarships to Middle Tennessee State University.
Each student was awarded a $6,000 scholarship that would be paid in $1,500 increments each semester for four semesters.
Ms. Jones and Ms. Hayes were notified of the award by David Hutton, director of the MTSU Financial Aid Office.
“We are committed to attracting the best and brightest from the Tennessee Board of Regents’ community colleges and have offered over $180,000 in transfer scholarship awards for the 2008-09 academic year,” Hutton said.
