The Messenger. 05.29.08 Kick-off for summer set “Catch the Wave Backyard Beach Carnival” will be held at Calvary Baptist Church at 2250 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City Sunday beginning at about 7 p.m. There will be a water slide, games, Caribbean cones, popcorn and soft drinks for children.At sundown an outdoor movie, “National Treasure 2,” will be shown. This event is to kick-off the summer events sponsored by the church. These include children’s Vacation Bible School, Youth Liftoff, Triquest Summer Youth Camp, Upward Basketball Camp and summer mission trips. For more information, call 885-2961. Celebration planned Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, located at 1304 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Union City, will host the annual Men and Women’s Day Sunday. The Rev. Melvin Wade of Newbern will be the 11 a.m. speaker. Vonette Turner, a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Union City, will speak at the 3 p.m. service. The public is invited to attend. The Rev. Phillip Sanders is associate minister and Elder Eugene Coleman is pastor. ‘Fair fight’ event set Second Baptist Church in Union City, located at 831 Everett Blvd., will offer a marriage and family class, “Learning to Fight Fair,” Sundays at 5 p.m. during the summer months, beginning this week. Topics will include “Why Marry?” “The Essence of Mar-riage,” “The God of Marriage,” “Sexual Compatibility,” “Role Relationships,” “Changing Your Spouse,” “In Laws or Out Laws,” “Family Finances,” “Child Dis-cipline,” “Absent Fathers,” “Mid-life Marriage Crisis” and “Unfaithful Spouses.” The class is free and open to all ages. The Rev. Eddie Mallonee is pastor. VBS planned Fulton First Baptist Church will host “Outrigger Island: Living God’s Unshakeable Truth,”™ June 16-20 from 9 a.m.-noon for children from 5 years old through sixth grade. June 18 will be Family Night from 5:30-8:30. Bible stories, “cool” crafts, motivating music, “Snack Shack” goodies and games at Recreation Reef will be part of the fun. Gospel meeting set Vine Street Church of Christ, located at 804 East Vine St. in Union City, will welcome Andrew Carney of Nashville as the speaker at a gospel meeting Sunday through Wednesday. Sunday services will be 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with Bible study at 9:45. A meal will be served following morning worship. Weeknight services will be at 7:45. The public is invited to attend.
