At the college level



The Messenger 06.04.08 Marcie Daniel, a 2004 graduate of Union City High School, recently graduated magna cum laude during the May commencement ceremony at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. She received a bachelor of science degree with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. Miss Daniel has been accepted at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, where she will begin the pursuit of a doctor of optometry degree this fall. — — — Bradley A. Bugg of Union City was among the students recently named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was listed with high honors. — — — Kassie Hughes of South Fulton, daughter of Jere and Patty Hughes, has been awarded a scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin. Miss Hughes, who will be a freshman, received the Leaders-in-Residence Award. — — — Several Fulton residents were among the students who received degrees from the University of Tennessee at Martin during recent spring commencement, held in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on campus. Among those receiving undergraduate degrees were Bryan Keith Black, Karen Cash Worley Dean, David Clayton Hardy and Kimberly Dawn Ward, all of Fulton. — — — Thomas Grant Glover recently received a doctor of philosophy degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. His field of study was chemical engineering and his thesis was “Novel Absorbent Synthesis Diffusion in Nanaporous Materials and Absorption System Optimization.” Glover is the son of Larry and Deborah Glover of Birmingham, Ala. He is the grandson of Marie Glover and the late Ed Glover of Union City and Mary Wrigley and the late Robert Wrigley of Atlanta. Glover plans to do his post-doctorate work at the University of California at Los Angeles. He and his wife, Betsy, will be moving to Los Angeles in June. — — — Jeremy Tibbs recently participated in the master’s hooding ceremony at the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business. He received a master of accountancy in taxation and will begin a position with Grant Thornton in Columbia, S.C., in September. Tibbs is the son of Teresa Tibbs and the late Jeff Tibbs of South Fulton. He is the grandson of Joyce Tibbs and the late Gene Tibbs of South Fulton and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Shelby. — — — Blake Smith of Troy has been honored at Lipscomb University in Nashville for academic achievement during the spring semester. Smith, a biology major who graduated from Obion County Central High School, has been placed on the honor roll for the spring semester.
