OCCHS golf tryouts set for next week Tryouts for the Obion County Central High School golf team will be held July 22-24 at 9 a.m. at Wynridge Greens in Troy. Each person trying out must have their own set of clubs and golf balls and should be prepared to either play or practice on the first day of those auditions. Head coach Donnie Walton said that all prospective team members must also have a physical completed before trying out. There will be no exception to this rule. The necessary TSSAA paperwork needed for those physicals may be picked up at the lobby of the OCCHS during regular office hours. For further information, contact Walton at (731) 446-5115. Streaking ’Hounds run win streak to 6 The streaking Union City Greyhounds won their sixth straight game with a 6-4 victory at Owensboro Monday night. All-star third baseman Trey Horn had three hits, fellow glitter squad member Ace Williams and Luke Putnam had a pair of base knocks apiece and Matt Phillips contributed a two-run single in a four-run third to propel UC. Drew Hayes, another Kitty League all-star selection for the locals, survived a bout with wildness, overcoming six walks in six innings to notch his third win in four decisions. Hayes fanned nine and gave up three hits and three runs. Spencer Clifft, the last of four Greyhound relievers, hurled a perfect ninth to notch his ninth save. UC, embarking on a season-long nine-game road swing, improved to 23-18 with the win and remained four games in back on Kitty League leader Tradewater, which topped Farmington 8-4. The ‘Hounds and O’boro continue their three-game set tonight. Ex-D’burg coach gets jail time for rape DYERSBURG (AP) — A former Dyersburg High School volunteer track coach has pleaded guilty in Knoxville to raping a 14-year-old girl before a meet in November 2006. Timothy Byars was sentenced to just under two years in prison. The penalty combines the rape charge with a second sexual battery charge from Nashville in an incident that occurred earlier that night against the rape victim’s sister, who was a teenager at the time.
