Letters to the Editor
To The Editor:
History was made at Hillcrest Elementary School Sept. 25. The first-ever junior high football game was played on campus. This was no small task, but due to the efforts of many volunteers, we were able to have a very successful event. Many times, those volunteers go unnoticed. I would like to personally express my appreciation to all those people who gave their time and talents to ensure the success we enjoyed.
There were members of the Obion County Rescue Squad, Don and Amy Bloxom, Donald Bloxom, Teddy Wilcutt and Chad Davidson, who gave their time to help with traffic control and parking.
Troy Mayor Jimmie Hart not only allowed us to use bleachers from the city park, but he delivered them to us himself.
Troy First Baptist Church members came to man the concession stand.
Tony Jones brought and set up a sound system and also announced the game.
There were faculty members who volunteered their time to get the field prepared, sell tickets and a variety of other chores that helped make this a memorable evening.
Former principal and football coach Charles Morris came and mowed the football field.
I want to also say thanks to Mike Hutchens and The Messenger sports staff for their great coverage.
I would be remiss if I did not recognize the tremendous support of our students, parents and staff. It was a great night of football, food and fellowship.
Robert Orsborne
Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, Hillcrest
