| The 2008 Martin Middle School fastpitch Panthers have seen their softball season begin on a series of high notes. Through seven games, the Panthers’ record stands at 6-1, with both strong offense and defense contributing to the start.
Already this season, both varsity pitchers have recorded perfect games. In a four-inning win over Paris Inman at the Early Bird tournament in Paris, Martin’s Kaley Leyhue struck out nine batters. The defense behind her recorded the other three outs to ensure no runner reached base. In the game against South Fulton on Aug. 18, Meagan Prince struck out 13 batters, with her teammates recording the other two outs to preserve her perfect game.
In addition to the dominant pitching, MMS has had no lack of offense, outscoring its opponents so far this season by a total of 41 to 5. The Panthers have already registered three “in the park” home runs, two by Kaley Leyhue, and one by Kaitlyn Harrelson. The team’s batting average is .391 and the Panthers have recorded 38 stolen bases through the first seven games.
