| County golf teams stay busy |

| Area golf courses were covered with local high school teams vying for links superiority in recent day.
The Westview High School golf teams got off to a later start than their fellow Weakley County Squads.
In their season-opening tri-match with Haywood and Crockett County on Aug. 14 at Alamo, the WHS boys team finished in second with Haywood earning the win and host Crockett County trailing behind the other two squads.
In a pair of head-to-head matches, Westview also won a rematch with Crockett County on Aug. 19 and then picked up a win over Dyer County on Aug. 21 for a 3-1 record.
Individually, Westview's Austin Smith finished in a tie for fourth among 76 golfers at the Trojan Classic in Dyersburg, while WHS teammate Madison Hughey finished in 13th place.
The Westview Lady Charger golfers are sporting a 2-1 record after early action with wins over Crockett County on Aug. 14 and again on Aug. 19. It was Dyer County coming up with a lower score than the Lady Chargers on Aug. 19.
The Dresden Lions (172) improved their team record to 10-3 with wins over McKenzie (181) and South Fulton (204) in action Thursday at Sharon's Persimmon Hills Golf Course.
Lion Matt McCulley and Greenfield Yellowjacket Taylor Stricklin shared medalist honors in the match when both carded a 39 during the event. |
