Fletcher announces grants for Fulton, Hickman, Ky.
The cities of Fulton and Hickman, Ky., have received $350,000 in funding for street resurfacing and new sidewalks.
The funding was presented this week by Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher’s Executive Cabinet secretary Robbie Rudolph.
“Governor Fletcher is committed to enhancing the economic strength and quality of life in Kentucky by investing in our local communities,” Rudolph said. “These investments are helping pave the way to a brighter future in the commonwealth for generations to come.”
Rudolph presented $100,000 in Transportation Enhancement funding for a new sidewalk installation on KY 166 in Fulton. The project will afford pedestrians safer access to residential and business areas, including a new Wal-Mart Supercenter. The new 3,200-foot sidewalk will be five feet wide and accessible to the handicapped. In addition to pedestrian safety, the project will encourage healthy physical activity.
“The governor recognizes that improving the local highway network and investing in local projects is critical to enhancing economic opportunities and the quality of life for local residents,” said Sen. Kenneth Winters (R-Murray). “We are extremely appreciative of the governor’s commitment to fund these projects.”
In addition, Rudolph also announced investments of $150,000 to the City of Fulton for its Wells Avenue resurfacing project and $100,000 to the City of Hickman for the resurfacing of various city streets.
“Governor Fletcher is working with legislators and local leaders to ensure our communities receive funding for vital infrastructure improvements like the Wells Avenue project,” said Rep. Steven Rudy (R-Paducah). “I commend the governor for recognizing these projects as priority investments.”
“This administration is committed to building stronger communities in every part of the commonwealth,” Rudolph said. “These investments will have positive impacts for generations to come.”
Kentucky cities and counties have received more funding for infrastructure improvements under Fletcher’s administration than at any other time in the history of the commonwealth, according to information provided by the governor’s office.
