Investigation continues in shooting
The investigation is continuing into Tuesday’s shooting incident involving a South Fulton man and Obion County sheriff’s deputies.
The shooting suspect, Ronald Bradley “Brad” Ingle, 36, remains hospitalized at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where he was airlifted following gunfire that broke out at a residence on Billy Jolley Road near South Fulton.
The suspect’s name had previously not been released by authorities, pending investigation of the shooting by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Earlier this week, Obion County Sheriff Jerry Vastbinder said two deputies from the Obion County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a suicidal person with a firearm about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on Billy Jolley Road. The first officer to arrive on the scene received gunfire from an assault rifle and his patrol vehicle was struck a couple of times.
A second officer arrived on the scene just seconds after the shooting began and the two deputies returned gunfire. The suspect, now identified as Ingle, was struck. Neither deputy was injured.
Vastbinder said the shooting suspect was outside and was behind an outbuilding when the gunfire was exchanged with the officers. He said the shooting began as soon as officers arrived on the scene and was over within about five minutes.
The incident is being investigated by the TBI because it is an officer-involved shooting, which is why the sheriff’s department has not been able to disclose the names of those involved. The suspect’s name was confirmed this morning by the TBI.
John Mehr, the TBI’s agent in charge for West Tennessee, told The Messenger today that the findings of the shooting investigation will be presented to the district attorney’s office and he said he has already had some discussion with District Attorney General Tommy Thomas.
