DSCC hosts book drive as part of fund raiser

Dyersburg State Community College and the DSCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) have launched the 2008/2009 Book Drive.
PTK will be collecting books on the Dyersburg campus and its centers throughout the 2008-09 school year.
College textbooks and other books used in college classrooms with a copyright date no more than five years old are most useful.
Books may be deposited in green receptacle boxes found at various locations on the campus and at the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County and the DSCC Gibson County Center in Trenton.
All books collected will be forwarded to a social venture called Better World Books. This group sells the books to raise money for literacy programs in the U.S. or sends them to undeveloped countries in hopes that raising the level of education will raise people out of poverty. PTK will receive 50 cents for every qualifying book collected. Last year, the DSCC chapter of PTK collected over 500 books and hopes to better that number this year.
No books will be refused, but the types of books most needed are textbooks and study guides (with copyright dates from the past five years) and any books used in a college class, trade paperbacks and workbooks (with no missing pages). In general, books that cover college subject matter are acceptable.
PTK is an international honor society for two-year colleges. There are over 1,200 chapters at colleges across the nation and the organization currently boasts a membership of about 200,000.
For more information, contact the college or visit on the Web at www.DSCC.edu. Additional information about Phi Theta Kappa can be found at www.PTK.org.
