Patriots get payback in pummelling Westview
Patriots get payback in pummelling Westview | Westview High School, Tanner Spencer, Henry County Patriots, Marsalis Teague, Dominic Allen, J.C. Griggs, Don Coady, Martin, Tennessee

Angles — Westview's Bradley Hahn (left) tries to get the angle to cut off Patriot punt returner Skylar Haley during Henry County's 48-7 win over the Chargers Friday night.
While they may not have been competing for gold medals in Beijing, the Henry County Patriots proved to be sterling examples of the Olympic motto "Faster, Higher, Stronger" when they thumped the host Westview Chargers 48-7 Friday night.
"They were vastly superior. It was a physical mismatch. We made a few plays, but they were bigger, stronger, faster and deeper," Westview head coach Don Coady said.
The Chargers actually began the game with a strong drive. Marching from their own 32 to the HC 21, the Chargers mixed Tanner Spencer passes to Chris Gardner and J.C. Griggs with Demarcus Williams runs. One of several Chargers injured during the game, Spencer was later knocked out of action with a broken ankle. A penalty negated a catch and run by Griggs that moved the ball to the 5. Soon after, WHS place-kicker Hyantae Kim's 39-yard field goal try was wide right.
Henry County (4-0, 1-0 Region 7-4A) needed only three snaps and 64 seconds to take the lead for good. Quarterback Marsalis Teague had a 57-yard romp and the 5-yard TD run. Dominic Daquilla made the first of his six PAT kicks for a 7-0 Patriot lead.
After a Charger punt, Teague struck again, needing one play to cover the 34 yards to the end zone for a 14-0 lead with 4:30 left in the first quarter. By the end of the quarter, the Pats' lead doubled to 28-0 on a Teague to Lennies McFerren 25-yard pass and a 72-yard McFerrens run.
By the half, the Patriots, who suffered their only 2007 regular season loss at the hand of the Chargers, had pushed the lead to 48-0 causing the clock to run continuously in the second half thanks to the TSSAA's mercy rule.
Griggs' 11-yard run in the fourth quarter provided the lone score for Westview (2-1, 1-0 Region 8-2A).
