Dunagan and Chesteen selected to panel for advisory commission

Dr. Nick Dunagan, University of Tennessee at Martin chancellor emeritus, and Dr. Richard Chesteen, professor emeritus of political science, were recently named to the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations’ “Forum on Tennessee’s Future” project panel.
TACIR was created to monitor federal, state and local government relations and to make recommendations for improvement to the legislature.
The commission is comprised of representatives from the executive and legislative branches of state government, county and municipal governments and the public. It serves as a bipartisan forum for the discussion of intergovernmental issues and may initiate studies resulting in legislative proposals and constitutional amendments. The commission responds to requests for technical assistance from the General Assembly, state agencies and local governments.
The forum panel will develop a list of 10 issues or trends related to the “biggest challenges that Tennessee must deal with in order to improve its competitive edge and enhance the quality of life for all current and future residents.” As a result of the forum, there will be policy papers on 10 topics and a magazine-format document accessible to a broad audience.
