She underwent surgery on her left eye socket because it was fractured. She also has a laceration to the liver, a brain contusion and she has multiple bruises to her body. These were the terms used in an affidavit to describe what a 21-year-old victim suffered during an alleged attack by her boyfriend last week. According to the report, the incident that left Whitney Bowls hospitalized stemmed from accusations of lies and betrayal. Phillip Hutcherson, 35, of Dresden now faces felony charges aggravated domestic assault and especially aggravated kidnapping. The alleged assault took place last Tuesday after an argument ensued between the couple when Bowls reportedly admitted she was leaving Hutcherson. In her account of the events that night, the victim said Hutcherson used a wooden baseball bat to hit her in the stomach before using his fist on her face. A broken guitar, a BB gun and a shard of glass were also noted in the affidavit of complaint as weapons the victim allegedly encountered during the attack. The report cites Bowls told her boyfriend around 3 a.m. Wednesday that she wanted to sleep because she was in pain and she could not see. It was noted by Dresden Police Sgt. Tonya Warren that the victim did not wake up until around 4 or 5 p.m. that afternoon when she told Hutcherson she needed to see a doctor. “She stated the only way he would let her out to see the doctor is if she did not tell the police he did this,” the affidavit states. Warren’s report went on to explain Hutcherson called Matt Mangum to come to the house and asked him to take the victim’s vehicle and wreck it so that it appeared she had a car accident. Mangum reportedly refused and Hutcherson threatened to kill him if he told anyone about the incident, according to the report. After Mangum left, Hutcherson devised a plan to make it appear as if Bowls fell from a ladder before he called 911, according to the affidavit. Bowls had to be airlifted to The Med in Memphis. Emergency personnel, police officers and doctors from the Memphis hospital revealed the victim’s injuries were not consistent with a fall from a ladder, according to the report. Hutcherson is charged with aggravated domestic assault and especially aggravated kidnapping. He is being held without bond in the Weakley County Detention Center. He is set to appear in Weakley County General Sessions Court Wednesday afternoon. The case is also under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. WCP 9.30.08 |
