Former Dresden Lion kicker earns national weekly award
Former Dresden Lion kicker earns national weekly award | Ryan Nanney, Lambuth Eagles, Jackson, Tennessee, Dresden,

Ryan Nanney
An outstanding individual effort in the Lambuth Eagles’ upset win on Saturday has brought national attention to a former Dresden High School Lions football player.
Lambuth Eagles place-kicker Ryan Nanney was named Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Monday. A few hours later the former Dresden Lion was also named the NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week.
Nanney, a 2006 graduate from Dresden High School, was a part of one of the many upsets in football last Saturday. He accounted for 15 of Lambuth's 51 points in the 51-40 upset road victory at No. 7 Virginia-Wise. He was a perfect 9-for-9 on kicks, which included splitting the uprights on all three field goals tries. The 5-11, 160-pound, junior place-kicker connected from distances of 27, 38 and 27 yards out with his 38-yarder handing his team a 34-12 halftime lead — an advantage that UV-Wise could not overcome. He currently ranks fourth in the NAIA in kick scoring per game (7.8).
For the NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week honor, Nanney was selected out of a pool of conference player of the week performers among 10 conferences and independents.
Lambuth football coach Hugh Freeze commented on the recognition Nanney received for his outstanding game, "Ryan is a solid performer. He is very deserving of the awards. He was instrumental in our win at Wise. I am really happy for him as he has worked hard and is seeing the results of that work."
