A new, hands-on program at the University of Memphis aims to encourage young women to explore mathematics and science.
“Expanding Your Horizons,” for girls in grades 7 and 8, will be held Oct. 18 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Herff College of Engineering.
The program will feature hands-on workshops in science, healthcare, engineering, computers and more. Students will have a chance to talk to women professionals about careers in math and science.
There will also be parent workshops on topics such as educational preparation, student life and financial aid.
The keynote speaker will be Laura S. Whitsitt, vice president of research and innovation for Smith & Nephew.
The registration fee is $10, with lunch included. Online registration is available at www.engr.memphis.edu/eyh.
For more information, call Shelia Moses at (901) 678-4933.
Sponsors are the Herff College of Engineering and the American Association of University Women Memphis Branch.
