| Thweatt family 'hanging in there' |

| The owners of a local restaurant are asking community members to pray for their son after an accident early Saturday morning sent him to a Memphis hospital.
Doug Thweatt, owner of The Hearth Restaurant, said on Monday the family is “hanging in there,” waiting for news on his son’s condition.
T.J. Thweatt of Martin was airlifted to The Med in Memphis after he fell asleep at the wheel on his way to work Saturday morning.
Thweatt was headed to Griffin Industries on Hwy. 431 just outside of Union City when he overcorrected and went down an embankment. The vehicle apparently flipped several times before coming to a rest in a side ditch.
Lt. James W. Tate, Jr. of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Thweatt wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and that played a factor in the significance of his injuries.
Doug said his son was taken to a Jackson Hospital before being transported to the trauma center of The Med in Memphis.
Thweatt suffered a broken neck, a broken collarbone and broke several fingers. His father said he is in a body cast form the waist up to prevent him from risking paralysis.
The family was waiting for a dye test Monday afternoon, which would determine if Thweatt needed neck surgery.
“He has a long road ahead of him and he will be out of work for several months,” Doug said. The restaurant owner said the family will take donations at The Hearth, but prayers are needed right now.
The Obion County Rescue Squad and Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.
Thweatt has a three-week-old child.
