UTM rodeo teams finish among top five teams at UWAL rodeo
UTM rodeo teams finish among  top five teams at UWAL rodeo | UTM Rodeo, John Luthi, UT Martin rodeo, Martin, Tennessee

The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s rodeo team finished third in the recent University of West Alabama (UWAL) Rodeo. The UT Martin team piled up 600 points, while Missouri Valley College was first with 820 points and Troy University was second with 730 points.
The UT Martin women’s team finished fifth with 150 points. Southern Arkansas won the rodeo with 313.3 points.
Matt Smith was one of several UT Martin cowboys to score in the bareback riding. Smith finished second in the average and was first in the second go. He also turned in a 70-point ride in the first go and finished fifth.
Among the others competing in the bareback for UT Martin was Sheldon Rinkes who finished fifth in the second go. Jeff Huskey finished third in the average and split third and fourth in both the first and second goes.
Cory Kirk added to the UT Martin team points in the calf roping event. Kirk won the average and was second in the short go. He also finished third in the first go. Brent Menz was sixth in the first go.
Chase Adamson and UT Martin’s Andrew Livingston finished fourth in the team roping first go.
Jeff Askey scored more points for UT Martin in the bull riding where he won the average, the first go and the second go. Askey won the first round with a 79-point ride. Zach Jackson finished fourth in the average and in the first go.
The UT Martin success on the women’s side was limited to the barrel racing where Heather Moore finished second in the average, the short go and the first go. Moore turned in a total time of 32.97 on two runs.
“We have some talent on both sides that hasn’t clicked yet,” said John Luthi, UT Martin’s head rodeo coach.
