McKenzie sours Sharon's debut | Sharon Junior High Eagles, McKenzie Middle School, Rebels, Sharon, Tennessee

Back off — Sharon eighth-grader Charelle Farris fends off Lady Rebel defender Katelyn Ridley in McKenzie's win over the host Lady Eagles last Thursday night.
In the opening contest of the 2008 season, the Sharon Eagles basketball squads were swept by the McKenzie Rebels this past Thursday night in Sharon.
The first contest saw the McKenzie Lady Rebels catch fire from long distance and hold the host Lady Eagles scoreless in the second quarter to take a 34-10 win, while in the nightcap McKenzie powered its way to a 54-8 victory.
In the girls game, McKenzie jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Nay Tashia Ward ended the run with a jump shot for Sharon. The Lady Rebels used a 5-0 run to take a 15-2 lead at the end of one quarter.
In the second quarter, McKenzie continued its scoring run. Kati Ferrell banked in a 3-pointer and Breanna Douglas hit one of two from the line to give the visitors a 19-2 lead at the break.
A jump shot from Olivia Pate opened the third quarter of play, but Katelyn Isbell ended the Sharon drought with a jump shot of her own and Chavelle Farris added a bucket. Free throws from Katelyn Ridley evened the points totaled for each team for the quarter at four each, but McKenzie maintained the 23-6 advantage.
Pate caught fire from behind the arc in the final quarter knocking down a trio of 3-pointers and leading the Lady Rebels to a 34-10 win.
Pate led all scorers with 13 for McKenzie. Farris had four for Sharon.
In the second game, the Rebels used a balanced scoring attack to put up 24 first-quarter points on the way to a 54-8 win.
McKenzie started the game by taking a quick 12-0 lead. The flurry of points was interrupted by a basket from Austin Taylor to end the Eagle scoring drought, but McKenzie ended the quarter on another 12-0 run to take a 24-2 lead after one quarter.
Taylor paced the Eagles in the second quarter with four points, but the Rebels put up nine on the way to a 33-6 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Ty McClain led a host of Rebel scorers with four points. Chad Lampkin recorded a basket for Sharon, but in the final quarter of play, the Eagles were blanked as McKenzie added seven more points and took the 54-8 win.
Jay McCutcheon led the Rebels with eight points. Taylor scored six for Sharon.
