Tennessee Soybean Festival gets under way Sept. 1
Tennessee Soybean Festival gets under way Sept. 1 | Tennessee Soybean Festival, Martin, Tennessee, The Monkees, Super Retriever Series
Musical entertainment, a cookoff, car and bike show, good food and children’s events are all part of “The Crossroads of Good Livin’,” planned during the 14th Annual Tennessee Soybean Festival, Sept. 1-9, in Martin.
Added to this year’s venue is the “Super Retriever Series” featuring the best dog and handler teams from around the country. Three separate SRS events will be held at the Martin Recreation Complex: retriever trials, Super Fly and Super V. These events have multiple trials and replicate common hunting and field scenarios. Top teams will qualify for the SRS Crown Championship. The Super Retriever Series is nationally televised on the Versus Channel, which will allow Martin to receive national exposure.
Blake Shelton and Mickey Dolenz will headline two of the evening concerts. The musical mix also includes Chapter Six in concert as the Tuesday night feature during festival week, the fourth annual Faith and Community Night, sponsored by the Martin Ministerial Alliance, with Gold City as the Wednesday night entertainment and Emerson Drive (“A Good Man,” “Fall Into Me” and “I Should Be Sleeping”) performing Thursday night. The Rose Royce and Mickey Dolenz concerts Friday night and Blake Shelton’s performance Saturday night will cap festival musical events. All concerts are free and will be on the main stage in downtown Martin.
Shelton has had hits, “Don’t Make Me,” “Some Beach,” “The Baby,” “Goodbye Time” and “Austin.” Rose Royce is known for songs, “Car Wash” and “Wishing on a Star.” Mickey Dolenz is best known as a member of The Monkees group with songs, “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I’m a Believer” and “Daydream Believer.”
Festival Big Harvester sponsors include the city of Martin, the University of Tennessee at Martin, Union City Coca-Cola Bottling Co., MTD Products Inc., Tyson Foods, Inc., First State Bank, First Citizens National Bank, Volunteer Community Hospital, Martin Area Ministerial Alliance, UT Martin Student Activities Council, Final Flight Outfitters and UT Federal Credit Union.
Traditional festival events will include the Mayor’s Kickoff Luncheon, First State Bank-sponsored Soybean Festival Parade; the Soybean Farmer’s Breakfast; Union City Coca-Cola Bottling Co.-sponsored School Children’s Street Fair with Volunteer Community Hospital hosting lunch for the children; “The Singing Bee” live game show, sponsored by Thunderbolt Broadcasting Co.; Rotary Club golf tournament; Kiwanis 5K run; Optimist Club bicycle rodeo; the 11th annual car and bike show, sponsored by MTD Products Inc., and the 13th annual barbecue cookoff, sponsored by Tyson Foods.
