Ty Thornton, son of Don and Veronica Thornton of Union City, recently passed the Tennessee Bar Examination and was to be sworn in today as an attorney by the Tennessee Supreme Court at an Admission to Practice Ceremony in Nashville.
In addition, he will participate Tuesday in an admission ceremony to practice law before the Trial Courts of Davidson County, the General Sessions Courts of Davidson County and the Juvenile Courts of Davidson County.
Thornton recently graduated from the Nashville School of Law with a doctor of jurisprudence degree. He is currently employed at the office of the State of Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter in Nashville.

Lesley (Johnson) Mathis of Nashville, formerly of Union City, recently graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University in Nashville with a master’s degree in nursing and acute care nurse practitioner.
A graduate of Union City High School, she also earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a master of social work degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Mrs. Mathis has accepted a position at Centennial Medical Center in the cardiac critical care unit, which is recognized nationally for delivering the most advanced cardiac diagnostic and treatment techniques.
Mrs. Mathis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ross of Union City. She is married to Todd Mathis, formerly of Martin.
