The Messenger. 11.13.08 Women’s meeting set “Days of Golden Color” will be the theme for the monthly luncheon to be held at Ken-Tenn Women’s Connection Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Catfish Restaurant in Martin.  The special feature will be Lisa Smartt of Dresden with her “Threads of Gold” and her humorous observations about life in a small town.  Another local entertainer will be Anita Haysleet of Martin, who will provide music under the heading “Golden Melodies.”  Ms. Haysleet is a talented singer who has been performing in her hometown since she was a teenager.  The speaker, bringing “Golden Thoughts for All,” will be Leslie Essner of Cape Girardeau, Mo., who is a residential designer.  All women are welcome to attend. The $8 ticket price includes program, bountiful buffet, drink and gratuity.  Walk-ins will be welcome or reservations may be made by Monday morning by calling (731) 587-3915, 885-9029, (731) 479-2979 or 479-8020.  The program is sponsored by the Ken-Tenn Christian Women’s Connection in association with Stonecroft Inc. Shopping event slated A free “shopping trip” will be offered at the activities building at Union City First Assembly of God at 1810 Pleasant Valley Ave. Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Free like-new clothing for children and adults and a free bag of groceries for each family will be offered while supplies last. Harvest Day set Harvest Day will be celebrated at Bethel Baptist Church in Yorkville Sunday. Sunday school will begin at 10 a.m., followed by worship at 11, with Bob Agee as the speaker. A meal will be served at noon and there will be gospel singing with The Joyful Sounds to follow. The church is located at 12 Baseline Road near Yorkville and the Rev. Billy Criswell is pastor. Michael Poore is music director. The community is invited to attend. Ladies Day planned “The Many Hats a Christian Woman Wears” will be the theme when Teri Meredith speaks at Macedonia Church of Christ Ladies Day event on Lower Sharon Road in Dresden Nov. 22. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., with services at 10. Lunch will be provided and those attending are encouraged to wear hats, a spokesman said. Children’s musical planned The Children’s Choirs of Calvary Baptist Church at 2250 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City will present a fall musical entitled “Acorns to Oaks” Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the worship center. The musical is under the direction of Kathleen Parker and everyone is invited to attend. The Rev. Mel Poe is pastor. Fund raiser planned Powerhouse Evangelistic Outreach Center, located at 1304 East Main St. in Union City, next to Sav-a-Lot grocery, will host a plate sale to benefit their building fund Friday and Saturday. The church will offer barbecue rib dinners for $7 and barbecued chicken dinners for $6. There will also be slab ribs for $18 and whole chickens for $10. Side orders of cole slaw and baked beans will also be available. The Rev. Demetries Ceaser is the pastor. Bauer to speak Sonia Bauer of Memphis will be speaking at Manna Ministries on the Ken-Tenn Highway near Union City Sunday at 10:30 a.m. She will also be speaking at Joe’s Steakhouse at 3762 Ken-Tenn Highway in Union City at 2 p.m. Saturday. Ms. Bauer was diagnosed with leukemia, but with God’s help she has conquered it. She will be talking about her experiences and the supplements she has used in fighting the disease. To honor Coleman Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, located at 1304 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, will honor Elder Eugene Coleman, the pastor, and his wife, Shirley, Sunday. The Rev. Rozelle Dotstry of Bashan Baptist Church in Rives will be the speaker at the 2:30 p.m. service. A meal will be served at 1 p.m. after the morning worship service. The public is invited to attend.
