ROOMS DESTROYED — About 8 a.m. today, smoke and occasional flames emanated from what was a cluster of six rooms at Air Park Inn, a motel facility located on the western shore of Reelfoot Lake. About 8 p.m. Thursday, a fire of undetermined origin destroyed six of the inn’s 20 rooms. Volunteer fire departments from Ridgely, Hornbeak, Samburg and Tiptonville responded. None of the six rooms that burned was occupied and only two of the other 14 rooms were occupied. Guests were moved elsewhere this morning. Reelfoot Lake State Park manager James Cox said the inn has been shut down pending an investigation by the Tennessee Fire Marshal. “Our priorities are to secure the scene, make it safe and determine what happened and proceed from there,” he said.
