Panthers cruise past Jr. Yellowjackets for sweep
Panthers cruise past Jr. Yellowjackets for sweep | Greenfield Junior High, Martin Middle School Panthers, Martin, Greenfield, Tennessee

In between — Martin's Katelyn Harrelson (center) finds herself caught between Lady Yellowjackets Brittany Peoples and Kendal Cook during action Thursday night in Martin.
Showing the hot hand from long distance early in the contest, the Martin Middle School Lady Panthers posted double-digit point totals in every quarter on the way to defeating the Greenfield Junior High Lady Yellowjackets, 50-22, this past Thursday night in Martin. The MMS boys squad cruised to a 56-19 to make it a sweep for the host Panthers.
Kaley Leyhue put up the first basket of the game and Sam Daily made good on a jump shot to give Martin the early 4-0 advantage. Greenfield’s Kalee Kesterson scored a layup to put her team on the board, but the Lady Panthers scored nine unanswered points, with Teddy Vincent contributing five, to take a 13-2 lead at the end of one quarter.
The Lady Yellowjackets picked up the pace in the second quarter and scored six points on baskets from Rachel Roberts and Callie Croom and a pair of free throws from Hannah Mosely. Martin, however, doubled the effort with 12 points including 3-pointers from Leyhue and Vincent, and led 25-8 going into the break.
Greenfield opened the scoring in the third quarter with a basket from Emily Allen. Alex Hughey answered with another trifecta. Mosely and Allen put up four points each, but a 3-pointer from Vincent at the buzzer gave the home team a 37-18 advantage after three frames.
Holding Greenfield to four points in the final quarter, the Lady Panthers scored 13 and went on to win, 50-22.
Vincent led all scorers with 15 points. Hughey added 11. Allen had 8 for Greenfield.
In the second game, Martin used an early 6-0 mini-run to take a 6-2 lead.
Greenfield followed with a 4-0 run of its own, but six points each from Jazell Baker and Antonio Hogard gave the Panthers a 16-6 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter.
Martin continued to put up the points in the second quarter. Tony Robinson scored four points for Greenfield including a shot from long distance, but the Panthers used a 14-point quarter to take a 30-12 advantage at halftime.
Only allowing the visitors seven points for the remainder of the contest, the Panthers picked up 17 final-quarter points from the bench and took a 56-19 victory.
Hogard led Martin with 13 points. Robinson scored eight for the Yellowjackets.
