| Defense dominates as Lady Dawgs nip G'field in OT |

In a game dominated by skin-tight, physical defensive efforts by both squads, the Gleason Lady Bulldogs managed to score enough points in the overtime to edge the host Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets, 38-35, Tuesday night in Greenfield.
In the boys game, the host Jackets used a second-quarter run to build a lead they never relinquished in downing the visiting Gleason Bulldogs, 55-37, to make it a split.
Behind Taylor Stout's 11 points in the fourth quarter, part of a game-high, 21-point effort, Gleason overcame a six-point deficit in the final frame to force the extra session.
Greenfield's Katie McCall muscled in a layup for the first bucket of the fourth quarter to push her team's lead to a half dozen at 22-16.
The Lady Dawgs (4-1, 2-0 District 14-A) retaliated with an 11-2 run — all the points coming courtesy of Stout — to flip the lead in their favor, 27-24, with 2:58 left in regulation.
The Lady Jackets (1-4, 0-2 District 14-A) ended the run with a 12-footer from Jordan Galey to slice the Gleason lead to a point, 27-26. Greenfield had a chance to take the lead after Jasmine Allen drew a charge on Gleason's Jenna Frazier, but turnovers were committed on three consecutive trips up and down the court.
With 44 seconds left, Gleason's Camille Cooper stretched their lead to three points, 29-26.
McCall buried a jumper in the paint and, fouled on the play, rattled in the free throw to knot the score at 29-all with what proved to be the final points of the fourth quarter with 27 ticks left on the clock.
In the extra period, Stout put Gleason in front with a layup off an assist by Frazier.
Greenfield knotted the score at 31-all on two McCall freebies.
Frazier hit 1-of-2 charity shots, but Galey's 15-footer gave the Lady Jackets a 33-32 lead with 2:34 on the clock in OT.
Stout notched a jumper to regain the lead for Gleason.
The teams traded two free throws with Mallory Robinson connecting for the host, while Frazier tallied two for a 36-35 Lady Dawgs edge with 1:27 to play in overtime.
A Greenfield turnover led to a Kim Edenfield freebie for a 37-35 Gleason lead with 32 seconds left.
With 13 seconds left, Galey's baseline drive was cut off by Frazier. As a result, Galey lost the ball out of bounds.
Frazier added another free throw with 11 seconds to play, and a steal by Cooper on an inbounds pass after a Greenfield timeout preserved the 38-35 victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
Scoring was at a minimum in the first half. Gleason used a Cooper trey and two Frazier buckets to counter an Emily Randolph hoop and a McCall free throw for a 7-4 Lady Bulldog lead after a quarter.
The Greenfield defense kept the Lady Dawgs scoreless over a five-minute span covering the end of the first frame and the start of the second quarter.
Randolph continued to contribute to the Lady Jacket totals with four points in the second quarter. Galey matched her output with four points. Greenfield outscored the Lady Dawgs 12-4 for a 15-11 halftime advantage.
The teams played to a five-five deadlock in the third quarter, setting up the dramatics of the fourth stanza.
In addition to Stout's 21 points, Gleason got 8 from Frazier.
For Greenfield, McCall finished with 12 points, while Galey and Randolph each tallied 8 points.
In the boys game, Greenfield used a 12-0 run in the first half to grab its first double-digit lead on the way to the 55-37 victory. The Greenfield defense limited the Bulldogs to 8 points in the first half.
A 12-foot jumper from Colin Bennett handed the Dawgs a 4-3 lead with 3:55 left in the first quarter. A half-minute later, Daniel Ricketts followed his own miss to put the Jackets in front 5-4. Greenfield never trailed again.
Those numbers remained on the scoreboard when the low-scoring first quarter ended.
In their 12-0 run, four different Jackets contributed points.
By halftime, the Jackets held a 23-8 advantage.
The Jacket lead peaked at 22 points, 39-17, late in the third on the way to the 55-37 victory.
Wes Clark's 15 points topped all scorers, while teammate Daniel Ricketts added 12. Ben Sumner's 11 points led Gleason.
