Lions' comeback fades in loss to SF boys
Lions' comeback fades in loss to SF boys | Dresden High School Lions, South Fulton Red Devils, Jonathan Avent, Marlee Mason, Erica Glisson, Dresden, Tennessee

Turn the corner — Dresden's Marlee Mason drives in from the wing during her team's 54-28 victory over visiting South Fulton on Friday night.
The Dresden Lions kept digging holes for themselves, eventually resulting in a deficit too large to overcome in a 64-55 loss to the visiting South Fulton Red Devils Friday night.
The DHS Lady Lions were way too tough for the South Fulton girls, cruising to a 54-28 victory for an evening split.
In the boys game, Dresden erased an eight-point, first-half deficit, but allowed the Devils to creep back out in front. The Lions never let SF run away with the contest, repeatedly getting defensive stops and scoring to stay within striking distance.
With 3:27 left in the fourth quarter, the Devils capped an 8-0 run with two Jacob Wade free throws for a 53-40 SF lead.
The Lions refused to fade away and put together a run of their own. Eric Evans began the outburst with a layup off an assist from Matt McCulley.
McCulley then came up with a steal resulting in two charity shots from Jacob Vallee. The Lion press forced a turnover, but a miss was rebounded by the Red Devils.
SF sandwiched two freebies and a layup around a Daniel Harris 8-footer for a 57-46 lead.
Evans again came through with a baby hook, but he couldn't nail the free throw that accompanied the foul on his shot.
Evans made up for the miss by grabbing a defensive rebound. On the possession, McCulley cut the gap to seven, 57-50, with two charity shots with 1:20 left.
With 67 seconds on the clock, McCulley came up with another steal and a layup to trim the SF lead to five, at 57-52.
After a Dresden timeout, the Devils broke the Lion press with a runout layup by Jonathan Avent for a seven-point edge.
A turnover by the Lions on their next possession was the death knell as the Devils scored the next five points on the way to the 64-55 win.
McCulley's 24 points led Dresden, while Evans added a dozen points. For SF, Avent finished with 28 followed by 13 from Wade and 12 from George Garmon. Avent and Garmon each slammed home dunks to excite the SF faithful in the first half of action.
In the girls game, the Lady Lions were never threatened on the way to the 54-28 win.
Lady Lion Marlee Mason contributed seven points and Erica Glisson added five points in the first quarter as Dresden ran out to an 18-5 advantage. Glisson and Mason tied for team-high scoring honors with 16 points.
Dresden led 28-18 at halftime and 41-21 after three quarters on the way to the victory.
