| Lady Bulldog defense keys win over Peabody |

Holding the Lady Golden Tide to single-digit point totals in three out of four quarters of play, the Gleason Lady Bulldogs built a sizeable lead early and held on to win, 44-26, over the visiting Peabody squad Friday night in Gleason.
The Peabody boys made it a split by nipping the Bulldogs, 64-60.
Laquita Luten opened the girls scoring with a layup for Peabody, but Jenna Frazier answered by sticking back an offensive board. After an initial slow start for both teams, Gleason was sparked to a 7-3 lead on a Sara Hensley 3-pointer and the Lady Bulldogs kept the Peabody scoring minimized to a single free throw while going on to lead 11-4 after one quarter.
Taylor Stout’s shot in the paint put Gleason up 13-4 to start the second, but two straight baskets from the Lady Golden Tide shrank the lead to 13-8. With both teams going cold from the field, Frazier put up Gleason’s only other points of the quarter and the home team took a slim 15-10 advantage into the break.
Making up for the low-scoring second frame, the Lady Bulldogs used a 10-0 run in the third quarter to build a 25-10 lead. Peabody’s first points of the quarter came on a Brianna Harper 3-point play at the 2:26 mark. Harper scored another basket, but Stout’s seven third-quarter points helped her team to a 27-15 lead after three.
Both teams found the range in the final quarter, but Stout again put up seven points and the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 44-26 win.
Stout led Gleason with 16 points. Kim Edenfield had 11 and Frazier scored 10. Luten was high scorer for Peabody with eight.
In the second contest, the Bulldogs gave the 3-point-happy Golden Tide all they could handle and more, but the visitors escaped with a 64-40 win.
Preston Frazier initiated the scoring with a 3-pointer for GHS. Corbin Bronson answered with a trifecta for the Tide. A free throw from Ben Sumner gave the home team a one-point edge, but another three from Peabody gave it a two-point advantage. Bronson knocked down two more 3-pointers, but Colin Bennett kept the Bulldogs close with six points. After one, the Tide held onto a 19-16 advantage.
Both teams equaled each other’s offensive output in the second quarter. Frazier and Bennett each scored six points for Gleason, but Peabody took a 32-29 lead into halftime.
Ben Rollins opened the third quarter with a three to tie the game at 32. Jeremy Vaughn’s layup gave the Tide the lead, but a Frazier jump shot tied the score again. Both teams traded 5-0 runs and at the end of three, Peabody’s lead shrank to two points, 47-45.
The Tide opened up a six-point lead to start the final quarter of play, but Gleason continued to stay close.
With 36.4 seconds remaining, a Bennett jump shot made the score 62-60 in favor of Peabody, but the visitors put up another basket and ran out the clock for the 64-60 victory.
Bronson led Peabody with 14 points. Bennett had 20, Frazier scored 18 and Sumner put up 14 for Gleason.
