Senior Heather Tillson was announced last week as the Ohio Valley Conference Small Bore Rifle Athlete of the Month and Air Rifle Athlete of the Month for the month of November for her efforts in two matches at Morehead State and Kentucky on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
Tillson, from Galway, N.Y., led the UT Martin mixed team to a win over Morehead State and a strong showing at Kentucky in the last two matches of the fall season.
At Morehead State, Tillson’s steadiness led to a team-high score of 568 in the small bore and a 40-point win over the Morehead State gold team. Tillson shot a 95-97 for a 197 prone score, a 93-95 for a 188 standing score, and a 93-95 for a score of 188. In the air rifle event at Morehead State, Tillson’s score of 581 bested that of any other competitor, setting the tone for a 2,287-2,260 win over the Morehead State gold squad. Tillson put together scores of 96-96-96-98-98-97 in the air rifle.
At Kentucky, Tillson led the mixed team once again in the small bore, scoring 195 (97-98) points in the prone position, 183 (92-91) points standing, and 191 (95-96) points kneeling for an aggregate score of 569. Tillson’s score of 584 (97-97-96-97-98-99) in the air rifle also was a team-high.
The rifle team will kick off its spring season with the five-day UT Martin Invitational, which will begin on Jan. 27 and last through Jan. 31 at the UT Martin Rifle Range in the ROTC Building. |
