Yellowjacket squads extend winning streaks into 2009
Yellowjacket squads extend winning streaks into 2009 | Greenfield Yellowjackets, Wes Clark, Daniel Ricketts, Clarksburg Rockets, Greenfield, Tennessee

Reverse — Greenfield's Wes Clark (right) applies to defense to keep Rocket Emmanuel McClerking from driving the baseline during the Jackets' win over Clarksburg Saturday night.
The year 2009 started the same way 2008 finished for the Greenfield High School basketball teams.
Both GHS squads won their first game of the new year over the visiting Clarksburg Lady Rockets and Rockets. The Greenfield girls stretched their winning streak to five games with a 64-35 victory, while the Yellowjackets pushed their run of victories to four in a row by holding off the Clarksburg boys by a 49-44 margin.
In the boys game, senior forward Daniel Ricketts had a big night with a game-high 25 points, but no play may have been bigger than Wes Clark hitting a pair of free throws to push the lead to 49-44 with 10 ticks remaining in the contest.
In the fourth frame, GHS connected on just 6-of-13 at the free-throw line. On the night, the Jackets hit 10-of-19 from the charity stripe. Clark was 6-of-8 from the line in the game.
Clarksburg could not take advantage of its free-throw chances, making only 6-of-13 free-throw attempts in the game and 5-of-10 in the fourth.
Greenfield held its largest lead of 14 points at 34-20 after a Daniel Ricketts steal and layup with 3:32 left in the third. The Rockets cut the gap to nine, 35-26, by the end of the third.
Rocket Tyler Epperson got hot in the fourth, scoring 12 of his team-high 24 points to lead the Clarksburg comeback try.
Greenfield led comfortably at 16-8 after a quarter and was in front 26-15 at halftime.
In the girls game, the host Lady Yellowjackets were just too much for Clarksburg to handle. Greenfield repeatedly used its inside presence of Emily Randolph and Shameilla McMullen to build an early lead. Randolph posted 11 of her 15 points in the first quarter, while McMullen added five of her seven as the Lady Jackets built a 20-5 lead after a quarter.
Jordan Galey was unstoppable for GHS in the second quarter with 8 of her game-high 18 points in the frame to counter Keandrea Jamison's six points for Clarksburg. Jamison finished with a team-high 11 points.
At the half, Greenfield led by a commanding 38-15 margin and was in front 53-22 after three quarters.
