Year starts well for Westview with two wins over Madison
Year starts well for Westview with two wins over Madison | Westview High School basketball, Westview Chargers, Amber Rechis, Madison Academic Mustangs, Jacob Lloyd, Amber Nanney, Martin, Tennessee

In between — Westview's Jacob Lloyd pulls up between a pair of Madison Academic defenders for a jumper in his team's 67-30 victory on Saturday night.
Both Westview squads opened 2009 with a bang taking victories over visiting Madison Academic this past Saturday night in Martin.
The Lady Chargers (16-0) remained unbeaten with a 46-28 win, while the WHS boys (12-4) cruised to a 67-30 victory.
Opening play to a slow start, the Lady Mustangs and Lady Chargers swapped baskets for the duration of the first quarter. Madison Academic’s Morgan Faulkner proved to be a big presence inside and led her team with five points, but at the end of one the score was knotted at 9-all.
Westview began the second quarter of play on a 4-0 mini-run. Five straight points from the Lady Mustangs put them back in the lead by a point. The Lady Chargers, however, answered with a 6-0 run to lead 20-14 at the break.
Continuing the offensive outburst in the third, Westview scored the first five points of the frame and took a 25-14 lead with 4:21 remaining in the quarter. Behind Amber Rechis’ 13 points the Lady Charger lead ballooned to 15 at 35-20 after three quarters of play.
In the final quarter, both squads entered the bonus. With the majority of the points coming at the charity stripe, the Lady Chargers finished up by outscoring the visitors 11-8 and taking the 46-28 win.
Rechis led Westview with 18 points. Grace Ann Swaim finished with 10. Faulkner scored 14 for Madison Academic.
In the second contest, the Chargers grabbed a sizeable lead early and never faltered, rolling to a 67-30 defeat of the Mustangs.
Jacob Lloyd got off to a hot start from 3-land as did Dillon Gardner. Both players hit a pair from long distance. Reid Cates added a trifecta of his own and Westview led 19-6 at the end of one.
Outscoring the visitors 11-8 in the second quarter, WHS took a 30-14 advantage at halftime.
Jacob Lloyd again demonstrated his accuracy from beyond the arc in the third frame. He knocked down a trio of threes and helped build the lead to 49-24 at the end of three quarters.
It was up to the Charger reserves to finish the job in the final quarter and they were more than ready. Marcus Bardwell put up seven points and Westview cruised to the big 67-30 win.
Jacob Lloyd led the Charger with 22 points. Dillon Gardner scored 10. Riley Morgan was high scorer for the Mustangs with 14 points.
Westview will next take the court when it travels to Dyer to take on the host Gibson County Pioneers with tipoff of the girls game at 6:30 on Tuesday night.
