The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Visual and Theatre Arts is presenting its seventh annual high school art exhibition — featuring some of the best young visual art talent from across northwest Tennessee — in the Fine Arts Building gallery. The art is being featured throughout this week, with first-, second- and third-place awards to be presented in four categories during the seventh annual College Art Day on Friday. Students from all over northwest Tennessee will participate in a day filled with workshops, food and fun. Awards announcements for the high school art exhibition will be made during the lunch break between workshop sessions. Among the schools participating will be Obion County Central, Union City, Gibson County, Henry County, Dyersburg and Martin Westview high schools and University School of Jackson. Last year, more than 130 students representing nine different schools participated. The Department of Visual and Theatre Arts provides numerous educational, artistic and cultural opportunities for university students and for the people of West Tennessee. Faculty and students serve the area through a quality undergraduate professional arts program with performances and exhibitions enhancing the aesthetic and cultural awareness of the campus and region.
