The Dempseys to entertain at DSCC

The Messenger 01.21.09

In celebration of Dyersburg State Community College’s 40th anniversary, the college is hosting a dinner Feb. 5 for all faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the college in the E.H. Lannom Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg campus.
A committee of more than 20 strong has put together an evening that showcases the college’s accomplishments and will set the tone for an exciting future.
The evening will start with a reception hosted by the DSCC Alumni Association. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to browse through a special photo gallery before the program and dinner begin. The program will include current members of DSCC’s jazz choir Syncopation joined by alumni members of the choir for a unique performance. A special video production called Reflections will be shown.
After these presentations, Dyersburg State will welcome The Dempseys to the stage.
The Dempseys, a unique musical trio based in Memphis, are known for their brand of high-octane rockabilly music and their much-talked-about live show. The band’s energetic live performances are unlike any show in the current popular music scene and have been referred to by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame as “the most entertaining rockabilly show on the planet.”
The group emphasizes entertainment, including bass fiddle stunts, instrument swapping, a flaming trumpet and a good-humored repertoire. Over the last six years, The Dempseys have been featured on numerous television programs, including “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “Entertainment To-night,” CNN and the Travel Channel’s visit to Memphis.
Child care for the evening will be provided by the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. To reserve a spot, contact BCM director Stan Cavness at (731) 285-3750.
Ticket costs for general admission are $30 per person or $50 per couple. Students, faculty and staff costs are $20 per person or $40 per couple. Priority seating is available for tables of eight at a cost of $250. Tickets must be purchased in advance by Jan. 30 and are available at the business office on the Dyersburg campus and at the front desks of the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County and the DSCC Gibson County Center.
Seating is limited to 276 and those interested in attending may wish to purchase tickets early.
