CORN YIELD WINNERS — This year’s Obion County Corn Yield contest winners were announced recently during the Obion County Farm School meeting held at Boyette’s Dining Room at Reelfoot Lake. Contestants enroll in the contest by entering 10 ears of corn during the Obion County Fair. Matt Ross (left) and Todd Phelps (not pictured) of Crop Production Service serve as superintendents of the contest. At harvest time, a minimum of 1.25 acres of corn is harvested. End results are all adjusted for moisture. This contest is sponsored by Jason Brigance and Mark Thomas of Pioneer Seeds. Receiving first place and a check for $500 was Elwin Tanner (second from left). He planted Pioneer 31P42, which yielded 287.7 bushels per acre. Second place and $300 went to Barry Reeves (not pictured). He planted DeKalb DKC63-46, which yielded 253 bushels per acre. Ty McConnell (center) received third place and a check for $200. He planted Pioneer 31D61, which made 242.8 bushels per acre. Helping make the presentation were Jason Brigance (right) and Mark Thomas, both of Pioneer Seeds.
