Bulldogs can't manage second huge rally over Halls in tourney
Bulldogs can't manage second huge rally over Halls in tourney | Gleason Bulldogs, Colin Bennett, Zach Wallace, Halls Tigers, Gleason, Tennessee

Hot hand — Gleason senior Zach Wallace contributed a game-high 22 points in his final basketball game as a Bulldog. Gleason fell to Halls 73-61 in the District 14-A tournament.
The Gleason Bulldogs managed a 21-point comeback for a win the last time they played the Halls Tigers on Feb. 6.
The Tigers weren't about to let Gleason repeat the feat when the teams met Saturday in the opening round of the District 14-A playoffs in Halls. The Tigers built a 19-point lead, held off a Gleason rally and won 73-61 to end the Dawgs' season.
"We played a little too fast, but we played extremely hard. We had some lulls on defense in the second quarter and early third quarter," Bulldog head coach Lee Lawrence said.
GHS held a 9-8 lead on senior Colin Bennett's putback with 3:16 left in the first quarter.
The Dawgs fell behind by six, 17-11, on a layup by Nathan Smith, but GHS senior Evan Orr cut the gap in half with a trey for a 17-14 score after a quarter.
In the second, a Zach Wallace 15-footer put the Dawgs on top, 18-17, with 6:19 left in the half. The Tigers pushed the tempo and outscored Gleason 18-7 the rest of the half to hold a 35-25 lead at the intermission.
Orr's third foul came with 47 ticks left in the first half, limiting his defense and rebounding.
In the third, Halls' lead peaked at 19 points three times, the last at 53-34, before the Dawgs righted the ship. Preston Frazier sank a 3-pointer and Bennett drove in for a short jumper to trim the deficit to 14 points, 53-39 after three quarters.
In the fourth, Gleason sliced its deficit to single digits, 59-51, on an Orr 3-pointer with four minutes left to play.
Frazier's third trey cut the gap to seven, 61-54, at the 3:23 mark. Bennett then came up with a steal, but the Dawgs turned the ball back over to Halls.
The Tigers then hit 10-of-12 free throws to preserve the win.
Wallace topped all scorers with 22 points. Bennett added 13, and both Orr and Frazier tallied 11 points for Gleason.
Four Bulldogs — Evan Orr, Colin Bennett, Zach Wallace and John Johnson — played their final basketball game in a Gleason uniform.
"We had four good seniors this year," Lawrence said.
