Lady Bulldog free throws hold off late Lake County challenge
Lady Bulldog free throws hold off late Lake County challenge | Gleason Lady Bulldogs, Lake County Lady Falcons, Gleason, Tennessee

Up and in — Gleason junior Jenna Frazier fires up a shot during her team's District 14-A consolation win over Lake County on Saturday night.
Increasing their number of trips to the line in the fourth quarter from their last contest, the Gleason Lady Bulldogs knocked down 9-of-15 free throw attempts from the stripe to weather a late Lake County surge and take third place in the District 14-A Tournament with a 44-39 win over the Lake County Lady Falcons this past Saturday night in Trenton.
Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is a must-win game in the Region 7-A quarterfinals. Gleason will visit the McKenzie Lady Rebels, the second-place team from District 13-A, on Thursday night. Lake County will visit the District 13-A champion West Carroll Lady War Eagles on Thursday night in Atwood. Tipoff for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Gleason’s Jenna Frazier opened the first-quarter scoring and both teams seemed up to the challenge. Late in the frame, two free throws from Lady Falcon Carnation Hart tied the score 8-8. A steal and layup from T.T. Flowers put the team from Tiptonville up, 10-8. Gleason entered the bonus at the 2:10 mark and with three seconds remaining in the quarter, Gleason’s Ashley Coble hit a shot from long distance that gave the Lady Bulldogs a 13-12 lead after one.
Gleason began to slowly pull away in the second quarter as Frazier knocked down a three, made good on a 3-point play and added a layup to put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 27-20 at the halftime break.
Points were few and far between for both squads in the third, but Sara Hensley scored three of Gleason’s six. Lake County was held to three total points and the Lady Bulldogs built a 33-23 advantage after three quarters.
Both teams reached the bonus in the fourth and Flowers orchestrated a Lady Falcon comeback with six points, but Kim Edenfield led the charge for Gleason. Hitting 7-of-8 shots from the free-throw line and scoring nine points, Edenfield helped GHS to the 44-39 win.
Frazier was high scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points. Edenfield followed with 14. Flowers put up 15 to top all Lake County scorers.
