Soybean Winners | Obion County, soybeans
SOYBEAN WINNERS — This year’s Obion County Soybean Yield contest winners were announced recently during the Obion County Farm School meeting held at Boyette’s Dining Room at Reelfoot Lake. Contestants enroll in the contest by entering stalks of soybeans during the Obion County Fair. Matt Ross (right) and Todd Phelps (not pictured) of Crop Production Service are superintendents of the contest. At harvest time, a minimum of five acres of soybeans is harvested. End results are all adjusted for moisture. This contest is Sponsored by Ty Parker (not pictured) of Monsanto. Receiving first place and a check for $500 was Kenneth Barnes (left). He planted Asgrow 4251, which yielded 70.10 bushels per acre. Second place and $300 went to Paul Albright (second from right). He planted Asgrow 4903 and made 69.98 bushels per acre. Lyn Barnes received third place and a check for $200. He planted Asgrow 4251, which made 69.37 bushels per acre. Published in The Messenger 3.3.09
