Two men were found Sunday night after their boat capsized in Reelfoot Lake.
Blue Bank Resort owner Mike Hayes said the two men were members of a six-man party from Springfield, Ill. He said the two men took the boat out about 10 a.m. and when they had not returned at sundown, a crew was sent out to locate them.
Hayes said Chance Williams and Matt Leland, Obion County Central High School students who are employed at Blue Bank, headed straight out across the lake and found the two men hanging on top of the boat. He said it is the quickest they’ve ever been able to locate a missing boat. “We’re lucky we found them when we did,” Hayes said, adding the men apparently had overturned the boat around noon.
The Obion County Sheriff’s Department received the call at 7:53 p.m. and arrived at Blue Bank Resort at 7:57 p.m. The Obion County Rescue Squad and Regional Emergency Medical Services also responded.
A sheriff’s department dispatcher said the men, who were not identified, were suffering from hypothermia, with one treated on the scene. The other, a diabetic, was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Hayes said the man is expected to be released today.
