Drug-related charges were filed against two Union City men following a traffic stop Friday evening.
Ronald Dean Wilkins Jr., 21, of 303 North Morgan St., Union City, and Deangelo Andre Marshal, 22, of 1003 Mercer St., Union City, were each charged with possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) when they were arrested at 6:03 p.m., according to a Union City Police Department report.
They were charged following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of East Church Street in Union City. A police officer reported he was traveling southbound on Miles Avenue behind a vehicle when he oserved that the driver failed to use a turn signal as he turned off South Miles Avenue to Church Street.
An officer reported he detected “a very strong odor” of what appeared to be marijuana when he made contact with the driver, identified as Wilkins. Both the driver and the passenger, identified as Marshal, were asked to exit the vehicle. The officer reported that he noticed Wilkins was moving his right foot and he was asked to remove his shoe, at which point a clear bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana fell out onto the street, according to the report.
Police reported that Marshal also took off his shoe, which contained a clear bag that held 11 small bags of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
