Lady Yellowjackets extend unbeaten streak to five
The Greenfield Lady Yellow-jackets tennis team continues to race through the opposition unscathed.

The Greenfield girls won their fifth outing of the 2009 season without dropping a match along the way. On Monday, the Lady Jackets blanked Milan 7-0 in Milan. Tuesday found GHS playing host to the team from Gibson County. The Lady Jackets and Lady Pioneers played a rare tennis doubleheader, making up action from last Friday that had to be rescheduled due to the GCHS girls basketball team playing in the state tournament.

Against the Milan Lady Bulldogs, in addition to taking the five singles matches and two doubles matches that counted in the team score, the Greenfield girls got wins at No. 6 through 11 singles and at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Katie McCall stopped Kristen Garcia, 8-2. Playing at No. 2 singles, Mallory Robinson took an 8-3 win over Hannah Watson. Summer Hoke won the No. 3 singles match, 8-4. At No. 4 Melissa McCartney held off Kayla Hernandez, 8-5. Natalie Medling made it a sweep of the singles matches for GHS with an 8-1 victory over Jasmina Alagic.

In team doubles play, the GHS top tandem of McCall and Robinson stopped Hernandez and Betty Kay Stinson, 8-1. At No. 2, Hoke and McCartney teamed up to trip Hannah Watson and Alagic, 8-4.

The other singles matches were shortened from a pro set to a regular set. Hannah Rawls won at No. 6 over Sarah Mabry, 6-2. At No. 7, Haley Perkins nipped Leah Watson, 7-5. Taylor Hatcher played at both No. 8 and No 11 singles.  She won 7-5 over Emmy Merritt at No. 8, and got a 6-1 win over Katie Mayo at No. 11.

At No. 9, Emily Allen stopped Mary Jo Stinson, 6-2. Hannah Mosley made it a singles sweep for GHS with a 6-3 victory over Jessica Cheaks at No. 10.

In the other doubles match, Medling and Rawls downed Mabry and Leah Watson, 6-1.

On Tuesday, Greenfield kept on winning with Gibson County playing the role of victim twice.

In the first round of singles matches, Greenfield won all five matches by identical 8-0 scores.McCall, playing as Greenfield's No. 1, stopped Merrilee Clark. Robinson got a win at No. 2 over Sydney Allen. Summer Hoke picked up the win at No. 3 over Rachel Keltner. At No. 4, Melissa McCartney was victorious over Shelby Counce. Natalie Medling picked up the win at No. 5 over Blair Deberry.

In a match at No. 6 singles, Greenfield's Hannah Rawls won 8-2 over Katie Reynolds.

In doubles play, Medling and McCartney blanked Allen and Clark, 8-0, at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Haley Perkins and Hannah Mosley combined to trip up Keltner and Deberry, 8-1.

At No. 3 doubles match, Taylor Hatcher and Emily Allen earned another win for GHS, stopping Counce and Reynolds, 8-1.

In the second round of team action between the Lady Jackets and the girls from Gibson County, Greenfield gave up a few games, but still took the 7-0 win over the Lady Pioneers.
