Late runs cost Lady Lions against two district opponents
Late runs cost Lady Lions against two district opponents | Dresden Lady Lions softball, Melissa Burkeen, Marlee Mason, Dresden, tennessee

Making contact — Dresden's Jesse Jones puts the ball into play during the Lady Lions' 6-0 loss to visiting South Fulton on Friday afternoon at Wilson Park. South Fulton plated three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take control.
The Lady Lions put up quite a fight, but a pair of district foes from Obion County plated runs late to eke out wins over Dresden.

On Thursday, Union City needed extra innings to edge the visiting Lady Lions, 3-2.

The following day, the always tough South Fulton Red Devils were held in check by Dresden until the fifth inning. SF plated three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings for a 6-0 win.

Against the Union City Lady Tornadoes on Thursday, it was the visiting Lady Lions who got the game's first lead. In the top of the first inning, Erica Glisson notched a one-out single and crossed home for a 1-0 edge.

The Lady Lions squandered a chance to add to their advantage. Marlee Mason walked and Melissa Burkeen singled. UC stranded two Lady Lions when they recorded the third out.

After setting down UC in order in the first inning, Dresden starting pitcher Brooke Irvine worked out of trouble in the second inning. Corey Anne Youree led off with a single and got all the way to third base before Irvine got a strikeout for the third out to preserve Dresden's 1-0 lead.  In the game, Irvine struck out seven Lady Tornadoes.

After a two-out single by Jesse Jones in the second inning, UC retired 11 Lady Lions in a row.

Union City knotted the score at 1-all in its half of the fourth. Karly Hollis singled and scored.

The home team took a 2-1 lead with a run in the fifth inning.

Dresden answered back in the top of the sixth. Hannah Wade singled and scored for a 2-2 tie.

Lady Lion Amy Reddick was stranded at third base in the seventh.

Union City took the win when Page Fisher led off with a triple to open the ninth and Youree singled to bring her home for a 3-2 Lady Tornado victory.

On Friday, the Lady Lions worked out of jams in the first and third innings, stranding a runner at third both times.

Dresden's bats were quieted by SF starter Haley McKinney. She gave up a first-inning, one-out single to Hannah Wade, but retired her on a force play and got one of her 10 strikeouts to end the DHS at-bat.

South Fulton took advantage of a friendly roll in the top of the fifth. After a leadoff single and a strikeout, a nubber up the third base line went from foul territory into fair. SF went on to score three runs on three hits.

The three Devil runs in the sixth came on three hits, an error and a walk for a 6-0 lead.

Dresden's second baserunner of the game came in the seventh when Burkeen was hit by a pitch, but SF took the 6-0 win.
