Chargers netters unbeaten on courts
The Westview boys tennis team stretched its season-opening win streak to three matches after blanking Union City, 7-0,  on March 16 and tripping Dyersburg, 4-3, on March 17.

The WHS Lady Chargers picked up a 6-1 win over Union City before falling to Dyersburg, 4-3, the following day. The Westview girls' record now stands at 2-1 on the season.

In the 7-0 win against Union City, the Westview boys picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 singles when Max Gearin stopped Phillip Wesner. Ezra Nance won at No. 2 singles over Carlos Fuentes by an identical 8-2 score. That same score made Westview's Zach Bell a winner at No. 3 over Julio Fuentes.

The win at No. 4 singles was a bit harder to come by as Westview's Jared Towe downed Cameron Graham, 8-5.

Charger Elliott Coleman earned the win over UC's Will Regan by an 8-4 score at No. 5 singles.

In doubles, the WHS duo of Gearin and Bell tripped Wesner and Julio Fuentes, 8-2, at No. 1. At No. 2 doubles, Nance and Coleman won, 8-3, over Carlos Fuentes and Graham.

In a singles match that didn't count toward the team totals, Westview's Greg Curd fell to Drew Henderson, 8-2, at No. 7.

Against Dyersburg, Westview squeaked out the district win by a 4-3 margin.

The Chargers got wins at No 3 singles by Bell and No. 4 singles by Towe.

The clincher for the Westview boys was picking up the two doubles points. Winning for the Chargers at No. 1 doubles was the team of Gearin and Bell. Taking the No. 2 doubles point was the WHS duo of Nance and Coleman.

In girls action against Union City, the Lady Chargers battled to win some close matches in order to take the overall 6-1 victory over the Lady Tornadoes.

At No. 2 singles, Westview's Nour Haddad outlasted Mary Harpole, winning 7-4 in the tiebreaker of a 9-8 match.

The two doubles matches were also very competitive. Haddad and Laura Gullett worked together to edge Union City's Mary Harpole and Elizabeth Fuller by a 9-7 score in No. 1 play.

At No. 2 doubles, the Westview pair of Amy Olds and Whitney Mount topped UC's Moore and Doreal Strayhorn, 8-5.

Westview's other singles wins came at No. 3 where Gullett blanked Strayhorn, 8-0. Olds added a WHS win at No. 4 singles, downing Fuller, 8-2. At No. 5 singles, Westview's Mount stopped Tkiara Davis, 8-2.

The lone UC win came at No. 1 singles, where Harpole topped Westview's Ashleigh Ary, 8-1.

In a singles match that did not impact the team scores, Westview's Cara Burnham downed Gracie Frankum, 8-3.

Against Dyersburg on the following day, the Lady Chargers could not pick up a point in doubles, falling to the DHS Lady Trojans, 4-3.

Westview did get three wins in singles action against Dyersburg. Ary rebounded from her previous outing to take a victory at No. 1 singles.

Gullett gave the Lady Chargers a victory at No. 3, while Olds picked up the third Westview win at No. 4 singles.

Westview's tennis teams will return to the courts for a pair of home matches at Skyhawk Courts this week. On Tuesday, the Blue and Gold will play host to Dyersburg. On Thursday, the Westview squads will entertain Gibson County.
