| Pioneer goal wakes up Westview |

The wake-up call the Westview Chargers needed came in the form of a Gibson County Pioneer goal Monday night at the MTD Soccer Complex in Martin.
Westview (3-1) regained focus after giving up the Gibson County goal and responded by scoring the next five goals for a 5-1 win over the Pioneers.
"Our focus wasn't where we needed it to be. It took them scoring a goal to get our attention," Westview head coach Dan Scates said. "On the positive side, we got another strong defensive showing."
Gibson County moved in front near the 15-minute mark. A Pioneer pass went through the Westview defense, resulting in a one-on-one situation. Gibson County's Will Gibson got a shot past WHS keeper Chase Manley for a 1-0 Westview deficit.
Near the mid point of the first half, the Chargers knotted the score at 1-all when Robert Davis lofted the ball up into the air. In the wind, it hooked into the goal off the GC keeper's hands.
Westview took the lead at 2-1 when Reid Cates fired in a shot off an assist from freshman Adam Reinhard.
"Cates came off the bench and gave us a good spark," Scates said of his senior sub.
The 2-1 Westview lead stood at the halftime break.
Westview extended its lead to 3-1 when Davis put in an unassisted goal.
The fourth Charger goal came on a penalty kick. The shot came as result of Abraham Haddad getting shoved down by a Pioneer inside the penalty box. Charger veteran Jake Hart blasted in the PK for a 4-1 Westview advantage.
With 10 minutes remaining, Westview got its fifth goal when Haddad led a rush down the right side and fed a pass over to a wide open Reinhard streaking down the middle for a low shot past the keeper.
"Our two freshmen forwards (Haddad and Reinhard) keep getting better with each game. They seem to be getting a handle on where each other will be," the WHS sideline mentor noted.
Haddad, did get credit for the assist, but it was his first high school game without a goal.
Manley earned the win in goal, filling in for Westview's usual starter Hyeontae Kim, who was out with an illness.
"Chase stepped right in. That's nothing new for him. He filled in several times last year," Scates recalled.
