A team from Obion County Central High School recently claimed second-place honors in skits competition at the 19th Annual Spanish Feria at Dyersburg State Community College.

First place in the sainetes (skits) category was won by Covington High School, with Crockett County High School finishing in third place behind OCCHS.

Over 385 students and 16 teachers from seven area high schools attended the 19th Annual Spanish Feria. The students came from OCCHS, Dyer County High School, Crockett County High School, Covington High School, Peabody High School, Humboldt High School and Munford High School for the day-long event.

At the Feria, students tested their Spanish language skills and cultural knowledge in 18 different areas. Judging categories included arts and crafts, preparation of traditional Spanish dishes, poetry reading and skits. There were also vocabulary and writing challenges.

This year’s Grand Premio winner, Munford High School, was also the 2008 Feria Grand Premio winner. Plus, Munford High School claimed first place in both Level I and II conversational Spanish competitions.
